A Chicago-based law firm, Options Law Group, has initiated legal proceedings to compel Chicago State University (CSU) to revoke President Bola Tinubu’s 1979 degree, alleging forgery in his admission records. The firm, retained by Nigeria’s Centre for Reform and Public Advocacy, claims Tinubu falsified high school credentials from Government College, Lagos—a school that did not exist in 1970—to gain entry into CSU. 

“Our client has presented facts which a reasonable person can conclude that Bola A. Tinubu… misrepresented material and misleading facts on [his] admission application,” the group stated in a letter to Illinois’ attorney-general 1. The move threatens to overshadow Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, as his CSU degree is his sole submitted academic qualification.
