U.S. ICE arrests Nigerian Aderemi Akefe for cocaine trafficking

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested Aderemi Joe Akefe, a 67-year-old Nigerian previously convicted for conspiracy to distribute cocaine. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security described him as one of “the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens,” adding that he is now in detention alongside others held for similar violations. According to the agency, “Mr Akefe is with criminal convictions for conspiracy to distribute cocaine.”

Officials confirmed that deportation procedures for Mr Akefe have been completed, noting that “Akefe has a final order of removal from an immigration judge.” He joins other Nigerians recently taken into custody by ICE, including Chinnomso Ochie and Theophilis Anwana, following increased clampdowns on illegal immigrants by U.S. authorities.
