“All U.S. embassy employees and their families are prohibited from non-official travel to a Nigerian military site or other government venue in Abuja at this time.”
ABUJA — The U.S. Mission in Nigeria has warned its citizens and staff to avoid unofficial visits to military bases and government facilities in Abuja, citing heightened security concerns linked to ongoing global conflicts.
“Due to increased security concerns arising from current global developments, U.S. Mission Nigeria informs U.S. citizens that all U.S. embassy employees and their families are prohibited from non-official travel to a Nigerian military site or other government venue in Abuja at this time,” the embassy stated Sunday on its website.
The advisory urges Americans to remain vigilant: “Stay alert in public places, with particular attention to locations and venues where Westerners, expatriates, and government officials frequent.”
It also recommends avoiding large gatherings, limiting unnecessary travel, and reviewing personal security plans.
The alert follows the recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and a deadly Boko Haram suicide bombing in Borno that claimed over 20 lives.
Israel and Iran continue exchanging missile strikes.
