United States President Donald Trump has warned Venezuela’s interim leader, Delcy Rodriguez, of severe consequences if she fails to cooperate with Washington. Trump issued the warning during an interview on Sunday, stressing that compliance with US expectations was non-negotiable.
The warning followed the announcement by Trump a day earlier that US forces had invaded Venezuela’s capital and captured President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. According to reports, the Trump administration is prepared to work with other members of Maduro’s government if US objectives are met.
These objectives include opening access to US investment in Venezuela’s vast crude oil reserves. Emphasising his stance, Trump said, “If she doesn’t do what’s right, she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro.”
