Trump says ‘too bad’ he’s ‘not allowed’ to seek third term

President Donald Trump acknowledged on Air Force One that he is “not allowed” to run for a third term, citing the US Constitution, despite frequently displaying ‘Trump 2028’ gear and enduring calls from supporters to govern beyond his current tenure.

President Donald Trump, currently serving his second term, publicly acknowledged the limits of the US Constitution on presidential tenure, stating Wednesday that he is “not allowed” to run for a third term in 2028.
Speaking on Air Force One, Trump addressed the popular notion of a third run, stating, “I have my highest poll numbers that I’ve ever had, and you know, based on what I read, I guess I’m not allowed to run, so we’ll see what happens… It’s too bad,” he remarked. The US Constitution’s 22nd Amendment limits presidents to two terms.

The comment comes despite the President often mentioning supporter calls for him to continue and his recent display of “Trump 2028” hats. House Speaker Mike Johnson reinforced the constitutional restriction, stating he doesn’t “see the path for that” and that “There is the 22nd Amendment.”

Trump’s former advisor, Steve Bannon, had previously fueled speculation by claiming “He is going to get a third term… Trump is going to be president in ’28.” Trump, however, said Wednesday that his ineligibility was “pretty clear.”
