Trump told UNGA climate change policies are a “con job,” pushing fossil fuels over clean energy.
U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday renewed his attack on global climate initiatives, dismissing them as harmful to economies during his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
“It’s the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world, in my opinion,” Trump said, faulting predictions made by climate scientists and international bodies. “All of these predictions made by the United Nations and many others, often for bad reasons, were wrong. They were made by stupid people that have cost their countries fortunes.”
Trump criticized the European Union’s green energy policies, warning that nations heavily investing in renewables would “suffer economically.” Instead, he advocated for “energy dominance” through oil, gas, coal and nuclear power.
His comments follow the U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 Paris Agreement, aligning America with Yemen, Iran and Libya as the only countries outside the accord. Scientists, however, insist climate change is real and worsening, with droughts, floods, and storms intensifying globally.
