Nigerian troops repelled coordinated Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks on multiple military bases in Borno, though several soldiers, including a senior officer, were killed.
Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled coordinated attacks by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province on several military locations in Borno State, though several soldiers were killed during the clashes. The assaults occurred between about 10:30 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. on Friday.
According to the army, the terrorists attempted to overrun positions in Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok but were met with stiff resistance. Reinforcements and air support were deployed, forcing the attackers into “disorganised withdrawals.”
The army said several insurgent leaders, including key amirs, were killed during the engagements, while a senior officer died while leading troops on the frontline. It added that all military bases remained under control and that troops were conducting follow-up operations to recover weapons and other combat equipment.
