Contracts People Nigeria Limited was ineligible for government contracts in 2024
President Bola Tinubu’s claims of strengthened procurement transparency and auditing have been undermined by a recent review of government practices. Speaking at a national fiscal governance conference, the president, through Minister Doris Uzoka-Anite, said: “We have strengthened the role of the auditor‑general’s office, enhanced the framework for procurement transparency, and expanded the use of digital financial management systems.” However, this assertion runs counter to developments in June, when the National Assembly approved an extension of the 2024 budget implementation into 2025 — a move critics say stalls fiscal accountability and delays audits.
The review also found that several contracts approved in May lacked essential details such as contractor names, values, or durations. Notably, Contracts People Nigeria Limited, awarded a ₦412 million contract for Abuja streetlights, was revealed to be ineligible. The investigation concludes that, despite official declarations, significant gaps persist in transparency and compliance with the Public Procurement Act.
