Tinubu to Nigerians: Forgive me if I have sinned

President Bola Tinubu has appealed to Nigerians for national forgiveness and unity as the Muslim faithful commence the annual Ramadan fast, emphasizing the importance of compassion in building a stronger society

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace unity, peace, and moral renewal as the Muslim holy month of Ramadan begins. Speaking on Wednesday during a Ramadan Tafsir session at the State House Mosque in Abuja, the President described the fasting period as a unique opportunity for spiritual reflection and a return to the ethical principles that bind the nation together. He emphasized that the essence of the season lies in fostering a collective sense of purpose and carrying out acts of kindness that contribute directly to national development and stability.

During the gathering, the President made a personal appeal for reconciliation, highlighting forgiveness as a central tenet of the Islamic faith. Addressing the congregation, Tinubu stated: “We start this Ramadan with all the teaching that it brings to us all. But the main principle is to do good to people, to share love and faith, and to forgive sins. I say, if I have sinned, forgive me as Nigerians.” He further noted that the discipline of the fast should inspire citizens to look beyond their differences and work toward a more harmonious country.

In addition to the call for moral rebirth, President Tinubu urged Nigerians of all faiths to utilize the season to pray for divine intervention in the country’s security situation. He specifically asked for support for ongoing government efforts to eradicate terrorism, banditry, and other criminal challenges currently facing the nation. The Chief Imam of the State House Mosque, Abdulwahid Suleiman, echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to witness another Ramadan and praying for the continued progress of the administration.
