‘Tinubu spent more time abroad than at home in 2025’ — Obi slams President’s absence, silence

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, has accused President Bola Tinubu of spending an excessive amount of time outside Nigeria, alleging that the President was abroad for 196 days in 2025 alone. Obi claimed this period surpassed the time Tinubu spent within the country, despite what he described as worsening national crises requiring hands-on leadership.

Obi also criticised the President’s alleged silence since December 2025, noting that Nigerians entered the New Year without a presidential address or national broadcast. He said this absence of direct communication coincided with reports that the President was on holiday in Europe, a development he argued deepened public anxiety and uncertainty.

The former governor further faulted the government’s handling of sensitive security matters, including reports of U.S. military strikes on Nigerian soil, which he said Nigerians learned about through foreign media and U.S. official statements rather than from their own government. Obi described the situation as a failure of leadership, insisting that effective governance demands presence, direct engagement, and clear communication with citizens, not silence or second-hand briefings.
