President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed that police officers assigned to guard VIPs be withdrawn and redeployed to core policing functions across Nigeria, according to a report from SAHARAREPORTERS. The decision, announced after a Sunday security meeting in Abuja attended by top military and intelligence chiefs, requires VIPs seeking protection to obtain armed personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The move aims to strengthen policing, especially in underserved communities, and is supported by the president’s approval of 30,000 new police recruits and ongoing upgrades to training facilities in partnership with state governments.
According to presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, the directive underscores the administration’s determination to increase police presence and address the country’s growing security challenges.
