President Bola Tinubu has nominated the late Senator Adamu Talba as an ambassador, five months after his death. Talba, who died at 73 on July 14, 2025 at the National Hospital, Abuja, was listed among nominees forwarded to the Senate on Thursday. The inclusion triggered public criticism online, with Nigerians calling for stricter checks on official appointment lists. The request was read before lawmakers by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Other nominees include former service chiefs Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas and Abdulrahman Dambazau, ex-ministers Ita Enang and Femi Fani-Kayode, former governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and ex-INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu. Mr Akpabio referred the list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for screening, with a report expected in one week as the Presidency seeks to fill key diplomatic positions.
