Tinubu nominates Ex-NIA boss Ayodele Oke as ambassador despite $43M Ikoyi loot

President Bola Tinubu has forwarded three non-career ambassadorial nominees, including former NIA Director General Ayodele Oke, to the Senate for confirmation.

After two years of leaving key diplomatic posts vacant, President Bola Tinubu has nominated three non-career ambassadors for Senate confirmation, including ex-NIA boss Ayodele Oke, Kayode Are of Ogun State, and Aminu Dalhatu of Jigawa State.

The nominations were announced during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who stated, “The list contains three names for now, I am sure others will follow.”

The Senate’s committee on foreign affairs has been directed to review the shortlist within a week. This move follows widespread concern over the state of Nigeria’s 109 diplomatic missions, including 76 embassies, 22 high commissions, and 11 consulates, which had remained largely unstaffed since Tinubu recalled career and non-career ambassadors in 2023.
