Tinubu declares nationwide security emergency

President Bola Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency, ordering massive recruitment across security agencies, activating trained forest guards, and calling for legal backing to allow states establish their own police.

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday declared a nationwide security emergency and authorised major recruitment drives across the army and police, including 20,000 additional officers. He also asked the National Assembly to review laws to enable state police and directed the DSS to deploy all trained forest guards, saying “there will be no more hiding places for agents of evil.”

Tinubu ordered that police officers withdrawn from VIP duties undergo crash retraining and warned that the moment requires “all hands on deck.” He applauded security operatives for rescuing abducted victims in Kebbi and Kwara, urged herder groups to end open grazing and embrace ranching, and cautioned citizens to remain vigilant, noting: “Those who want to test our resolve should never mistake our restraint for weakness.”
