Tinubu asked to unmask operators of Nigerian-owned supertanker seized by US Coast Guard

The Independent Security Experts of Nigeria has called on Bola Ahmed Tinubu to investigate the seizure of the Nigerian-linked supertanker MT Skipper by US authorities over alleged oil theft and criminal activities.

The Independent Security Experts of Nigeria (ISEN) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order an independent investigation into the seizure of a Nigerian-owned supertanker, MT Skipper, by the United States Coast Guard and the United States Navy. The vessel was intercepted in December 2025 over allegations of crude oil theft, piracy and drug trafficking, with suspected links to Iranian and extremist money-laundering networks.

ISEN’s lead expert, Dean John, said authorities must uncover the real owners and operators of the vessel and prosecute those involved. The group warned that failure to act decisively could encourage further oil theft and worsen Nigeria’s revenue losses.
