Tension in Ondo as gunmen strike Celestial Church, abduct six worshippers

Suspected gunmen attacked a Celestial Church in Uso, Ondo State, abducting six worshippers during an early morning service.

Suspected gunmen have again struck in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, abducting six worshippers during an early morning service at a Celestial Church located along the Uso/Owo Motorway. The agrarian community, situated along the Akure–Owo highway, was thrown into tension following the invasion by the assailants.

An eyewitness told Vanguard that the gunmen stormed the church premises during the service and whisked the victims away to an unknown destination. The source added that one of the abductees narrowly escaped from the captors shortly after the incident. Families of the victims said the kidnappers had yet to establish contact with them as of the time of filing this report.

Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said the “kidnapping incident occurred in the early hours of 25th February 2026.” According to him, “At approximately 12:50 a.m., six worshippers were abducted at a Celestial Church located along the Uso/Owo Motorway in Uso.”
