Nigeria’s inflation rate declines to 15.15% in December 2025

Nigeria’s headline inflation rate fell to 15.15 percent in December 2025, down from 17.33 percent in November, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The figure, released in the NBS Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, remains significantly lower than the 34.8 percent recorded in December 2024. On a month-on-month basis, inflation slowed to 0.54 percent from 1.22 percent, indicating easing price pressures.

The NBS attributed projected spikes in December’s figures to adjustments in CPI methodology, stressing the changes were technical and not reflective of worsening economic conditions. Food inflation dropped sharply to 10.84 percent year-on-year from 39.84 percent in December 2024, driven by lower prices of key staples. Regionally, Yobe, Ogun and Abuja recorded the highest food inflation, while Akwa Ibom, Sokoto and Plateau posted the slowest increases.
