In a dramatic escalation of pressure on Venezuela, President Trump declared in a social-media post that “the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela” should be considered “closed in its entirety,” urging airlines, pilots and even criminal traffickers to steer clear.
The warning comes as multiple airlines have already cancelled flights and Venezuela revoked flight rights for several carriers following a safety notice from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) over “heightened military activity.”
