The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says excessive speed and wrongful overtaking caused the road crash involving British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The Corps confirmed the collision occurred around 12pm near the Sinoma area, Sagamu, involving a black Lexus SUV and a stationary red Sinotruck. Preliminary findings revealed five adult males were involved. Two died at the scene, one was injured, while two escaped unhurt.
FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, said, “The injured victim was evacuated for medical attention, while the remains of the deceased were conveyed to Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu.” The Corps added that the crash resulted from “serious traffic violations” and reiterated that speeding and unsafe overtaking remain major causes of fatal highway accidents. The FRSC stated, “On behalf of the entire Management and staff of the Federal Road Safety Corps, heartfelt condolences go to the families of the deceased, and we wish the injured victim, Anthony Joshua, a speedy recovery.”
