Son of Norway’s crown princess faces charges of rape and domestic violence

Marius Borg Hoiby, 28, the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, faces 32 offences, including one count of rape with sexual intercourse and three counts of rape without intercourse.

The son of Norway’s crown princess has been charged with rape and domestic violence, prosecutors confirmed on Monday.

Marius Borg Hoiby, 28, the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, faces 32 offences, including one count of rape with sexual intercourse and three counts of rape without intercourse. Some incidents were allegedly recorded on his phone, Oslo state attorney Sturla Henriksboe said.

Hoiby is also accused of making death threats, abusing a former partner, and committing acts of violence against another. If convicted of the most serious charges, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

“He does not agree with the claims regarding rape and domestic violence,” his lawyer Petar Sekulic said, adding that Hoiby plans to plead guilty to some lesser offences.

Hoiby was arrested in November 2024 and held for a week during a year-long investigation. His trial could begin in January and last six weeks. He is currently free pending trial.

“It’s up to the judges to decide if he is guilty,” Henriksboe said.
