A former appointee of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is being sought in connection with a deadly shooting spree targeting state lawmakers, police sources confirmed Saturday.
The suspect, Vance Luther Boelter, 57, allegedly posed as a police officer before shooting Senator John Hoffman and his wife at their Champlin home, leaving both seriously injured. He then proceeded to the residence of former House Speaker Melissa Hortman, where he is believed to have fatally shot her and her husband.
Boelter was appointed by Walz in 2019 to the Governor’s Workforce Development Board and had also served under former Governor Mark Dayton.
Authorities said they discovered “No Kings” flyers, a manifesto, and a list of politicians inside Boelter’s car, referencing protests planned against the Trump Administration. Officers reportedly cornered Boelter briefly at Hortman’s residence before he fled.
