Shock as police sergeant allegedly supplies AK-47 to robbers

A serving police sergeant has been arrested over the alleged supply of an AK-47 rifle used in an armed robbery attack in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The development was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post on X, following the arrest of a robbery suspect, Justine Gbata, 30, from Doka Village, who was linked to the attack.

According to the report, the suspect was apprehended after gunmen attacked one Muhammad Danka of Ankoma Village at about 1:00 p.m. on January 24, dispossessing him of his red Bajaj motorcycle. The assailants, who were said to be armed with an AK-47 rifle, fired several shots before fleeing into a nearby forest. A combined team of police operatives, vigilantes and local hunters pursued the attackers, arresting one suspect and recovering seven empty AK-47 shell casings at the scene. The suspect sustained injuries during the chase and was taken to the General Hospital in Doma for medical treatment.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that the rifle used in the robbery was supplied by a serving police sergeant attached to the Daudu Division in Benue State. The sergeant has since been identified and detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Benue State for further investigation, while police authorities said efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the gang and recover the stolen motorcycle.
