Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Sunday to represent President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of President Alassane Ouattara. The swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for December 8 at the Presidential Palace, will be attended by several African leaders and international dignitaries. Ouattara was re-elected on October 25, continuing a longstanding partnership between the two West African nations.
A presidential statement noted Nigeria’s commitment to supporting democratic governance in the region. “Nigeria has maintained a longstanding commitment to supporting sister nations in West Africa and upholding the principles of constitutional governance,” it read. Shettima’s presence aims to reaffirm Nigeria’s dedication to constitutional order and peaceful power transitions. He was received upon arrival by Ivorian Prime Minister Robert Mambe and senior Nigerian officials.
