Sheikh Ahmed Gumi has rejected claims of his arrest by US troops in Nigeria, describing the viral image circulating online as AI-generated and misleading.
Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmed Gumi has denied viral claims that he was arrested by United States military personnel at a Nigerian airport. The reports followed the circulation of an image online purporting to show Gumi being apprehended during an alleged counterterrorism operation.
Speaking to SaharaReporters, Gumi said, “The US Army cannot arrest me in Nigeria, why will the US army come and arrest me in Nigeria, for what reason?” He added, “The image is Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated… I have not been arrested,” dismissing the reports as false.
