Several people have been hospitalised following the overnight collapse of a building along Adeniji Adele Road in Isale Eko, Lagos Island, in the early hours of Thursday. Emergency responders, including officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigerian Police, and other rescue agencies, rushed to the scene.
According to LASTMA’s verified X handle, victims trapped under the debris were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. “Victims rescued from the building have been taken to the hospital for treatment,” the agency stated.
While the number of casualties remains unconfirmed, emergency operations are ongoing. Traffic around the area has been redirected to ease congestion. “Our officials have diverted traffic from Zenith back through Oba’s Palace to make use of Enu Owa to their various destinations,” LASTMA added.
Although the cause of the collapse has not yet been determined, structural failure and old buildings remain frequent issues in the vicinity. The site is currently cordoned off.
