The Nigerian Army and NAPTIP arrested seven suspects in Calabar during a coordinated raid on a hospital where a day-old baby was allegedly being sold for N3 million.
Troops of the 13 Brigade, acting on credible intelligence, raided a hospital in Calabar Municipality to dismantle a suspected human trafficking ring. During the operation, seven suspects were apprehended while allegedly negotiating the sale of a day-old baby boy for N3 million. The Army described the act as a “grave violation of Nigerian law” and fundamental human rights.
The suspects, primarily from Cross River and Akwa Ibom, were handed over to NAPTIP for prosecution. Major Yemi Sokoya confirmed the rescued infant is now in protective care. The military reaffirmed its commitment to “combat human trafficking, child abuse, and other criminal activities,” urging the public to provide timely information to help enhance regional security.
