Former Senator Kabiru Marafa, who represented Zamfara Central from 2011 to 2019, has backed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat of potential military action in Nigeria, saying it could push the government to tackle insecurity more effectively.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Marafa said, “I strongly support the President of America, Donald Trump, for issuing that threat,” and added, “I differ with a lot of Nigerians because most Nigerians look at it from the perspective of sovereignty, patriotism, which I subscribe to. But of what importance is sovereignty to a dead man?”
He noted that Trump’s comments have drawn global attention to attacks, especially targeting Christians, and stressed that the protection of citizens’ lives should be paramount.
Trump’s recent order for the Pentagon to prepare for possible military intervention comes alongside the U.S. designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over religious freedom violations.
