Senate dismisses reports of division, says its ranks remain united

The Senate has denied reports of a rift between Senate President Akpabio and Senate Leader Bamidele, calling the claims false and misleading.

The Senate has dismissed reports of a clash between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele during a recent executive session on the chamber’s annual recess.

In a statement on Sunday, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, described the reports as “entirely false” and a distortion of standard legislative practice.

“The reports do not contain any iota of truth,” he said, adding that the session involved routine deliberations consistent with global parliamentary standards.

“In their entirety, these reports misconstrue time-tested practices and traditions in parliaments worldwide,” Adaramodu stated.

He clarified that robust debates should not be interpreted as internal conflict.

“Debates on policy issues should not be misconstrued as altercations among members, nor do they suggest any crack in the leadership’s ranks,” he added.

The Senate reaffirmed its unity and commitment to national development, urging the public to disregard the speculation and trust in its legislative integrity.
