Security Shock: Lagos top schools get police over attack threat

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the permanent deployment of police personnel to Grange School and Greensprings School (Anthony Campus) in Ikeja following threats of attacks on the schools by unidentified persons. The decision comes after the management of both schools announced temporary closures on Wednesday and Thursday after receiving threatening messages via WhatsApp from unknown sources.

Grange School, in a letter to parents dated January 21, 2026, said it would not open on Thursday due to a security-related concern. The Head of School, Richard McMahon, explained that although there was no immediate danger, the school chose to act responsibly by prioritising the safety of students, staff, and families while engaging relevant authorities for guidance. The school said the temporary closure would allow time to fully assess the situation and put necessary safety measures in place.

The management of the affected schools said they were working closely with security agencies and would continue to monitor developments before announcing a reopening date. Police authorities said the deployment was aimed at reassuring parents and residents while preventing any potential breach of security around the schools.
