Security agencies lockdown Abuja, seal off Presidential villa ahead of #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest

Security agencies have implemented a total lockdown of strategic entry/exit points and restricted access to the Presidential Villa in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to preempt the planned protest by Omoyele Sowore and his group demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

Strategic entry and exit points within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), particularly the city centre, have been sealed off by a combined team of security agencies today in anticipation of a planned protest. The security measures, which began as early as 4 am, are aimed at restricting protesters advocating for the release of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
Of particular note is the restricted access to the Presidential Villa, the nation’s seat of power.

The lockdown is a direct response to Omoyele Sowore’s announced intention to march the protest to the Villa to deliver a message to the President regarding Kanu, who has been held since June 2021.
Security operatives have reportedly allowed only people with “genuine businesses” to move about their activities.

The heightened tension and security presence led the Embassy of the United States of America to issue an advisory earlier, cautioning its citizens to “stay away from the city center.” The actions reflect the government’s determination to maintain order amid the ongoing advocacy for Kanu’s release.
