The Saudi Pro League is considering Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah as potential new ambassadors amid growing uncertainty over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Al-Nassr.
The Saudi Pro League has identified Bruno Fernandes and Mohamed Salah as possible ambassadors for the league as discussions continue over Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential departure. Ronaldo, 41, has been the league’s most high-profile player since joining Al-Nassr on a free transfer in December 2022 after more than two decades in European football with four different clubs. In 2025, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner signed a lucrative contract extension with Al-Nassr until next summer.
However, Ronaldo’s future has come under scrutiny following reports of dissatisfaction with the club’s ownership, the Public Investment Fund (PIF), over what he allegedly viewed as inadequate support during the most recent transfer window compared with rival clubs. His current contract reportedly includes a £43 million clause that becomes active at the end of the season, potentially allowing him to leave this summer.
In anticipation of a possible exit, a source from the Saudi Pro League told The i Paper, as reported by Sport Bible, that Salah or Fernandes would be strong replacements. “Salah and Fernandes would be ideal choices, especially Salah, because he would draw in an Arab audience as a Muslim. Either of those newcomers, plus that young talent, would be really big for us,” the source said. Ronaldo’s absence from Al-Nassr’s recent 1-0 win over Al-Riyadh and 2-0 home victory against Al-Ittihad has further fuelled speculation, while both Salah and Fernandes remain key figures at their clubs, with Salah having scored more than 250 goals for Liverpool since joining in 2017.
