Saudi Arabia has banned poultry and egg imports from Nigeria and 39 other countries over health and safety concerns linked to animal disease outbreaks.
Saudi Arabia’s Food and Drug Authority has banned the importation of poultry and table eggs from 40 countries, including Nigeria, citing public health concerns. Partial restrictions were also imposed on certain regions in 16 other countries. The measure is aimed at safeguarding public health and ensuring food safety in the kingdom’s domestic market.
“The list of affected countries is subject to regular review in line with global health developments and epidemiological updates,” the authority said. It added that “the temporary ban does not apply to heat-treated poultry meat and related products, provided they comply with approved health and safety standards.”
