Medvedev escalated nuclear rhetoric against the U.S. after Zelensky threatened Russian targets with American long-range weapons, as Trump reaffirmed support for Ukraine at the UNGA.
Kremlin official Dmitry Medvedev has warned the United States that Russia possesses weapons “a bomb shelter won’t protect against,” following remarks by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on striking Russian targets. Zelensky, in a recent interview, said former U.S. President Donald Trump had explicitly supported Ukrainian attacks on Russian arms factories and energy infrastructure, adding that Ukraine would use long-range American weapons if supplied.
Medvedev, a former Russian president and now deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, wrote on X: “The Kiev drug addict said the Kremlin should know where a bomb shelter is… What the freak needs to know is that Russia can use weapons a bomb shelter won’t protect against. Americans should also keep this in mind.”
The warning comes amid rising NATO-Russia tensions, with Poland recently downing Russian drones that breached its airspace. At the UN General Assembly, Trump urged NATO to defend its skies, declaring Ukraine could reclaim its territory.
