Rivers chief judge declines setting up panel to probe Fubara

The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, has declined a request by the Rivers State House of Assembly to constitute a seven-member judicial panel to investigate Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, over alleged gross misconduct, citing subsisting court orders restraining him from receiving or acting on such requests.

In a letter dated January 20 to the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, Amadi said the orders, served on his office on January 16, 2026, remain in force, stressing that constitutionalism and the rule of law require strict obedience to court orders regardless of personal views, while noting that the Speaker has already appealed the rulings at the Court of Appeal.
