Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have returned a N100,000 cash gift credited to their personal accounts on the instruction of Governor Sim Fubara. The development was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday signed by the chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions and Complaints, Hon. Enemi Aabo George.
According to the statement, “Today, the 30th day of December 2025, Honourable members of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly received bank credit alerts of the sum of one hundred thousand naira each.” It added that the “unsolicited and unapproved amount” was transferred on the governor’s instruction and was promptly refunded to the state government.
The House said the decision was guided by constitutional provisions requiring legislative approval for public spending. “As an institution established by law… all public expenditures must follow due process,” the statement said, accusing the governor of drawing funds without approval. The incident comes amid renewed hostilities involving FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
