Ribadu: Nigeria’s Sahel Democracy Needs Protection Amid Instability

National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has urged Nigeria to safeguard its democratic system, identifying it as the only functioning democracy in the Sahel region amidst widespread political instability and military takeovers. Speaking at a forum in Abuja, he highlighted Nigeria’s constitutional government despite security challenges and warned against those undermining national unity.

Bishop Matthew Kukah, Convener of the National Peace Committee, echoed concerns over insecurity and dismissed the idea of communities resorting to arms for self-defense, calling it a false sense of security. He stressed the importance of moral leadership, civic responsibility, and the inclusion of women and youth in peace efforts.
