The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Ministry of Education to reverse its directive removing key subjects from the WAEC portal. The resolution followed a motion by Hon. Oboku Oforji, who said the sudden exclusion of subjects has thrown thousands of students preparing for the 2026 WASSCE “into confusion.” He described the timing as “academically disruptive and insensitive,” noting that subjects like Data Processing and Computer Studies remain essential in today’s digital world.
Oforji also questioned the removal of Civic Education, calling it “central to nation-building,” and warned that affected SS3 students would be left with only five subjects, contrary to the required eight. He said expecting students to pick and master new subjects months before exams is “academically impossible” and violates Section 18(1) of the constitution. The House resolved to urge the ministry to suspend implementation and set up an ad-hoc committee to ensure compliance.
