Nigeria’s House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government and the Ministry of Education to reverse the removal of vital subjects like Civic Education, Computer Studies, and Electrical Installation from the West African Examination Council (WAEC) portal. A motion moved by Oboku Oforji underscored the significance of these subjects for national development, arguing that the timing of such curriculum changes is inappropriate given their global relevance.
Lawmakers expressed concern for thousands of students preparing for the 2026 WASSCE, noting that removing foundational subjects would limit them and provide insufficient time to prepare for new ones. The House passed the motion, endorsed by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, and called for the directive’s immediate reversal to ensure students a fair chance in their examinations, also establishing an ad hoc committee.
