According to new research from the Pew Research Center, the percentage of Americans using X has fallen to 21%, down from 25% in 2021, despite Elon Musk’s rebranding and platform changes, including the introduction of AI bot Grok. The platform has faced criticism for promoting harmful content, causing some advertisers to pull out. During the same period, Reddit’s popularity grew from 19% to 26%, with roughly half of adults aged 18–29 now using it. Meanwhile, YouTube still dominates with 84% usage, followed by Facebook and Instagram, while TikTok and WhatsApp continue to grow.
Pew noted that its 2021 data was collected by phone only, while the 2025 survey used a mix of web, mail, and phone methods. “The Daily Beast has contacted X for comment.”
