Real reason pro-Wike lawmakers want to impeach Fubara –Govt Source

The ongoing efforts to impeach Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara have been linked to his refusal to present a supplementary budget, according to information obtained by SaharaReporters. A source familiar with the situation said the decision has heightened tensions between the governor and lawmakers aligned with former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The source alleged that Wike had promised pro-Wike lawmakers ₦10 billion each in new constituency projects through a proposed supplementary budget, but Governor Fubara declined to prepare or submit such a budget for consideration. This refusal reportedly angered the lawmakers and strengthened their resolve to pursue impeachment proceedings against the governor.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported that documents from within the Rivers State Government House indicated that at least 26 lawmakers aligned with Wike allegedly received ₦350 million each in September 2025 for constituency projects during a period of emergency rule in the state. The revelation has further fuelled controversy surrounding the political crisis in Rivers State.
