Newcastle United have reached an agreement with Southampton to sign England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on loan, with an option to buy.
According to The Athletic, the deal includes a substantial loan fee, and Ramsdale has been cleared to undergo a medical.
The 27-year-old joined Southampton from Arsenal last summer for £25 million, signing until 2028. He made 32 appearances as the Saints were relegated from the Premier League.
Ramsdale previously played under Newcastle boss Eddie Howe at Bournemouth and has earned five senior England caps. He lost his starting role at Arsenal to David Raya in the 2023-24 season after two years as first-choice.
“Ramsdale may not necessarily excite fans in the way James Trafford may have done, but he is a very experienced Premier League goalkeeper,” wrote The Athletic’s Chris Waugh.
At Newcastle, Ramsdale will compete with Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka, Odysseas Vlachodimos, John Ruddy, and Mark Gillespie.
