Portugal is inviting freelancers and remote workers to apply for its Digital Nomad Visa — for less than ₹9,500 — granting legal stay and work rights for up to a year.
Portugal is opening its doors to digital nomads with a visa that lets remote workers and freelancers live and work in the country for up to a year — all for just €90 (₹9,156).
Introduced in 2022, the D8 Digital Nomad Visa is available to non-EU/EEA nationals and comes in two forms:
Long-Term Residency Visa: Valid for 4 months, renewable to a 2-year permit, leading to citizenship.
Temporary Stay Visa: Valid for 12 months with multiple entries, renewable up to four times.
Applicants must be 18+, earn at least four times Portugal’s minimum wage (€3,480/month), and provide proof of remote employment or freelance work, valid passport, health insurance, and a clean criminal record.
Benefits include access to the Schengen Area, potential family relocation, and Portugal’s attractive climate and lifestyle.
However, applicants should expect some bureaucratic delays and rising housing costs in cities like Lisbon and Porto.
Visa processing begins at the Portuguese embassy or consulate in your country.
