Portable regains freedom after one week in police custody

Controversial singer Habeeb “Portable” Okikiola has regained his freedom after spending a week in police detention over alleged assault on police officers and other individuals.

The ‘Spider-Man’ crooner was remanded by a Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, on 13 January 2026, following his arraignment on a nine-count charge bordering on assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest, linked to an incident at his bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area on 1 January.

He was also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million and was initially denied bail due to the absence of a police officer involved in the case.

On Monday, a video that went viral on X showed the singer celebrating his release with associates who described him as innocent of the charges, even giving him a new nickname, “Innocenty.”

Responding in the clip, the Zazoo Zeh hitmaker said, “You can start calling me that name, and we are going to sing about it.” His manager, Baby Luv, also confirmed the development in an Instagram post, writing, “All glory to God. Grace spoke, mercy prevailed. #Freedom. She stayed when it was hardest. God honoured her faith #Thankful,” while acknowledging the role of Portable’s wife, Bewaji.

The release marks the latest episode in a series of legal troubles for the singer, who has faced multiple arrests and court cases across Kwara, Lagos, and Ogun states over the years.
