Police warn: Taking transport money for dates without showing up is an offence

The Rivers State Police Command has issued a warning to women over the growing trend of collecting transport fare from men for dates and failing to show up, describing the act as a criminal offence.

In a viral video shared on X on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the practice amounts to fraud and is punishable under the law. “Why will you collect money from a man without going to see him? It is an offence, a punishable offence… It is obtaining money under false pretence. 419,” she stated.

Iringe-Koko noted that offenders risk arrest and prosecution if complaints are made, while urging the public to avoid fraudulent financial dealings.
