Police vows to arrest Sowore after failed CID agreement

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, says his declaration of activist Omoyele Sowore as wanted remains in effect.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, says his declaration of activist Omoyele Sowore as wanted remains in effect, vowing that the police will take all lawful steps to arrest him.

According to Daily Post reporting, Jimoh made the statement on Wednesday while speaking on ‘Sunrise Daily,’ monitored on Channels Television. The CP had previously declared Sowore wanted on Monday for allegedly “causing a disturbance of public peace and acts to commit a serious felony by planning to obstruct traffic on the Third Mainland Bridge.”

Jimoh confirmed that the declaration is still active, stating: “My declaration that Sowore is wanted is still in force.”

He disclosed that Sowore’s lawyer had contacted him, and they agreed the activist would report to the CID, where the investigation is being carried out. Jimoh noted, however, that Sowore failed to report as agreed throughout Tuesday.

The Commissioner concluded by vowing to proceed with enforcement: “Throughout yesterday he has failed to report, and we are going to do everything within the ambit of the law to get him arrested, investigated, and prosecuted for these offences.” He emphasized the normal procedure is to conclude inquiries before making an arrest.
