Police return $23,000 to Cayman islands victim in romance scam case

Nigerian police have recovered and returned $23,000 to a Cayman Islands victim in an international romance scam investigation led by INTERPOL Abuja.

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the return of $23,000 recovered from a Nigerian accused of running an international online romance scam to a victim in the Cayman Islands. Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said INTERPOL National Central Bureau, Abuja, recovered the funds following a request from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service.

Hundeyin said covert, intelligence-driven investigations led to the suspect’s arrest and recovery of the money, which was handed over through the British High Commission in Abuja. “The Force remains resolute in ensuring that proceeds of crime are traced, recovered and returned to victims,” he said, adding the suspect will be charged after investigations.
