The Nigeria Police Force says it has recorded “a satisfactory and commendable level of compliance” with President Bola Tinubu’s directive stopping the deployment of officers for VIP escorts and guard duties. Force spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said on Saturday that a special enforcement team conducted extensive monitoring across Lagos, including the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge and the Domestic Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
Hundeyin noted that the team found no breach of the directive, adding that “no case of unauthorised deployment of police personnel for VIP escort duties was recorded during the monitoring, and consequently, no arrest was made”. He said Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun remains committed to fully implementing the policy, stressing that the redeployment of officers will enhance security nationwide. The police urged citizens to support efforts toward “a more professional, efficient, and citizen-centered policing system”.
