Nigerian police are probing the Lagos road crash involving Anthony Joshua’s convoy, with attention shifting to the hired driver of the SUV that hit a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Investigators say early findings point to overspeeding and tyre failure before impact. “From the preliminary investigation… definitely there was overspeeding on the part of the SUV Anthony Joshua was travelling in,” Babatunde Akinbiyi said, adding that the tyre burst caused loss of control before the SUV “swerved and rammed into the stationary truck.”
Authorities confirmed the hired driver has been discharged from hospital, given a statement, and remains under investigation as potential charges are reviewed. “Anthony Joshua’s driver has been discharged from the hospital, and he is currently giving his statement,” police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin said. TMZ added, “He could be hit with reckless driving charges as a result of Monday’s incident.” Two of Joshua’s close associates, Sina Ghami and Kevin “Lateef” Ayodele, died at the scene. The parked truck driver fled and is being hunted by officials.
