Despite President Tinubu’s directive withdrawing police escorts from VIPs, multiple officers have quietly returned to their former assignments, with insiders confirming gradual reassignments.
Despite President Bola Tinubu’s sweeping order for the immediate withdrawal of police escorts from VIPs, several officers have discreetly resumed their duties, according to insider accounts.
Speaking anonymously, a source told Punch that “those on VIP duties are returning. I saw some of them today. In my office, two of them are back,” adding that the directive may still take effect eventually.
Another officer confirmed that colleagues are “being reassigned to their previous duties gradually,” though the specific VIPs involved remain unclear.
Political figures such as Prince Adewole Adebayo and suspended PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu were among those whose police escorts were initially withdrawn, with Adebayo later seen accompanied by NSCDC personnel and armed private guards.
The directive, announced by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, followed Tinubu’s high-level security meeting with Service Chiefs in Abuja.
