Police in Osun State have arrested three suspected grave robbers in Ile-Ogbo, Iwo Local Government Area, over alleged possession of items believed to be human remains. The arrest followed credible intelligence received on December 3, according to a statement issued on Monday by the police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi.
Mr Ojelabi said operatives moved swiftly to the location and arrested the suspects inside a dilapidated building. He listed exhibits recovered, including: “Two plastics containing human skin, white gown used to bury corpse, two dried bones suspected to be human bones, 21 pieces of teeth suspected to be human teeth,” alongside other items and a cash sum of N127,000.
He said the suspects confessed to exhuming a corpse from a Muslim cemetery in the Gaa-Fulani area of Ile-Ogbo for money-making rituals, adding that investigations showed the group specialised in such acts. In a related development, police in Ikire also arrested a suspect with unlicensed firearms. All suspects will be charged to court after investigations, he said.
